How To Choose a Chiropractor:
1. Avoid False Advertising, such as "Voted Best Chiropractor in the area" or "Voted #1 in the area."
The statement that any treatment techniques and results are the best in the area cannot be independently verified for accuracy or legitimacy. The statement also suggests that they are superior to other chiropractors in your city. Most, if not all, state chiropractic examining boards have created language that specifically prohibits a chiropractor from advertising in such a manner.
2. Avoid Chiropractors who provide EXCESSIVE VISITS. Every individual heals differently; however, with most minor injuries, you should start feeling better between 4-6 visits. The remodeling phase of injury (3 weeks to 2 or more years) is when more aggressive and intense rehabilitation exercises are prescribed to help you regain your full range of motion. It is important to remember that healed scar tissue is only about 80% as strong as the original tissue, predisposing you to recurrent injuries. Our doctors will provide recommendations for your specific injury, however, how long you decide to benefit from Chiropractic care should always be your decision. Regular visits or Tune-Up visits (every 3 months) thereafter help maintain good health and prevent future injuries. Remember, our bodies are like our cars, it is wise to get our bodies checked for misalignments the same time you get your cars checked for mislaignments as well.
Dr. Jason provides fast, pain-relief without the hassle. He does everything in his power to help patients feel better as fast as possible with as few treatments as necessary, and also give advice on how to avoid future problems by implementing an exercise approach and weaning care to an as needed plan. In general, in the absence of progressive worsening of a condition in spite of care, a common treatment plan is 1-2 times per week for 2 to 3 weeks and re-evaluate. If improvement is noted, a tapering of treatment frequency is appropriate while introducing a self-help, home-based exercise program. If the patient is not getting relief after the first 3 to 6 weeks, depending on the specific case, Dr. Jason will recommend a referral to another practitioner.
3. Avoid Chiropractors with silly marketing gimmicks. Health fairs, swap meets, and shopping malls often have chiropractors giving free spinal examinations. Seek referrals from friends and family who receive care from a Chiropractor. Dr. Jason treats patients of all ages, from infants to the elderly. Dr. Jason runs a successful referral based practice. All of his new patients come from referrals from his established patients and professional colleagues from the medical, legal, chiropractic and retail communities in surrounding Contra Costa County and San Francisco County area.
4. Research their background education. Find a chiropractor who has attended a 4 year college in addition to Chiropractic college. Dr. Jason received his B.S. in Biological Sciences and Exercise Physiology from University of California Davis and attended Palmer West of Chiropractic in San Jose. Dr. Haidee received her B.S. in Exercise Phyisology from SFSU, her B.S. in Physical Therapy from University of California San Francisco and attended Palmer West of Chiropractic in San Jose.
5. Avoid Chiropractors who treat every patient the same way. Dr. Jason has experience and knowledge. After 10 years of treating patients of all ages, from infants to the elderly, he has seen many health conditions come in to the office and has developed specialized treatment plans for every individual. This is important because every person is different and not every person should be treated the same way. Dr. Jason also understands the importance of your individual lifestyle and he will modify your treatment plan accordingly.
6. Avoid Chiropractors who offer Pre-Paid Payment Plans. Do not pay large sums of money in advance for Chiropractic care. Dr. Jason accepts most insurances, offers affordable chiropractic care, and some insurances cover massage therapy in addition to their chiropractic benefits. Some insurances we accept include: United Healthcare, Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Cigna, Aetna, Kaiser, HealthNet, Capitol Administrators, CBCA and more. Call our office for to find out if we accept your insurance.
7. Beware of any chiropractor who uses x-rays for any reason other than to rule out a fracture, dislocationor bone disease. X-rays should only be taken if (1) you have sustained a recent traumatic injury and are in considerable pain and discomfort, or (2) a history and examination indicate a possible bone disease such as arthritis. (3)You have had long standing pain in an area that has not responded or resolved with care.
8. Avoid Chiropractors who only adjust your spine or joint. Dr. Jason and Dr. Haidee are both licensed to perform physical therapy and rehabilitation in conjunction with their Chiropractic adjustment. When you have a misalignment in your spine or joint, your muscles and ligaments are also involved in the injury and need to be addressed. A thorough chiropractor will provide Chiropractic adjustments along with some type of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation. Dr. Jason and Dr. Haidee take about 20-30 minutes on each patient to make sure they address the damaged muscles, tissues, ligaments and spine/joint misalignment.
A GOOD CHIROPRACTOR
A good chiropractor does everything he or she can to get you better as fast as possible with as few treatments as necessary. A good chiropractor will give you advice on how to avoid future problems without a costly maintenance treatment plan. A good chiropractor will only x-ray when necessary and will not use x-rays as a marketing tool to have you continue care. A good chiropractor will give you sensible nutritional advice concerning supplementation and a healthy diet without excessive pressure to purchase vitamins from the chiropractor. A good chiropractor will have a strong working relationship with allied professionals of all specialties, including family practice physicians, orthopedists, neurologists, physiatrists, physical therapists, athletic trainers and massage therapists.
Drs. Jason and Haidee Wong are good chiropractors. Once you've been treated by them, you won't go anywhere else for your Chiropractic treatments.
